Eyal Cohen is an Israeli author and essayist with an MFA in Writing from Columbia University and a background in teaching.

His debut book, Take the L: How Men Understand, Withhold, and Express Their Love, was published by Sentient Publications in 2025. The book grew directly out of the workshop process at Columbia: close reading, exacting feedback, sustained revision, and the willingness to interrogate what a narrator is doing on the page.

Eyal is currently working on his first novel, The Other Side of the Door, which tells the story of two young men's understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on their surroundings: one in Tel Aviv during the Second Intifada, and one in New York City after October 7th. The pair of them, uncle and nephew, become tied together in a way that sends them on different paths while binding them forever, the contrast depicting the relationship between self and state, the individual and the collective, and where we all decide to draw the lines that frame our belonging and responsibility.

At Shesh Shop, he brings together the two sides of his background that matter most here: the discipline of a working writer and the attentiveness of a teacher.
